Due to my recent move and well life, I’ve been rather neglectful of my tresses.  Although I loved the henna (article coming soon) it has dried my hair (yes I added oil and dc’ed after), that along with the sudden change in the weather has left my hair dry and frizzy and my curls less defined.  So since it looks like fall is officially here and winter is not to far away it is time to get into the winter hair routine.  I planned on protective styling for this winter, but I’ve discovered protective style is not for me.  I love my hair and after a week I miss it like a shopaholic missing a Jimmy Choo sale.  So I will be trying to survive the winter without protective styling, but with lots of TLC instead!

Tonight I’ll start with deep conditioning.  I have many homemade recipes, but this is what I’m doing tonight:

  • 1 Full Avocado
  • 4 Tbsp of Grapeseed Veganaise
  • 2 Tbsp Agave Nectar
  • 1 Ripe Banana (I recommend banana baby food, no matter how much you mix, you will have banana bits in your hair)
  • 4 Tbsp EVOO
  • 4 Tbsp EVCO
  • 2 Tbsp Raw Shea Butter

(measurements are aprox….I never measure)

I put all the ingredients in a bowl and whip thoroughly with a hand mixer until completely smooth (lumps of food in your hair is not cute).  Then completely saturate your hair, I like to section mine to make sure I get it all.  Be generous from root to tip, after mixture is applied put on a conditioning cap and cover with a towel.  Relax or clean or whatever you like for the next hour and then thoroughly rinse out of hair.  Your hair will feel amazing!!! I know mine did!

Stay tuned for more winter TLC tips!
